I enjoy bringing thought and reflection to materials that are often discarded and overlooked. Through an altered state or a shape (often the circle comes up in these works), these materials take on a higher meaning. Some of these materials include a shingle, staples removed from a utility pole, clicked out staples, eraser shavings, boiled match sticks, and ball points removed from pens. The processes of working with these materials is obsessive and meditative. The altered state of the material speaks to the transcendence--even resurrection--of the material. The title of my MFA (Master of Fine Arts) show was Resurrected. The time and discipline required to make this art reflect the dualities in the physical and spiritual aspects of my own life. It is important for me to go through the process so I can better understand the material as it changes.
Please spend some time to read about the works in the “About the Works” tab. Thanks for checking out my website!
